Walker County E9-1-1 District is now hiring for the position of Alabama Public Safety Telecommunicator I (ALPST1). PST’s are considered First Responders in the State of Alabama and must meet state requirements. Applicants are required to obtain: CPR Certification, complete a 40-hour Alabama PST Certification program, Alabama EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) Certification, NIMS ISO-100 certification and NIMS ISO-700 certification withing 60 days of hire date. PST’s are required to obtain a minimum of 12 CEU’s per year to retain ALPST1 certification. All training and certification programs are provided. Applicants must be willing must be willing to work irregular hours, extended hours, weekends and holidays, at times with little or no notice. This is a high-stress position where you will deal with life and death situations on a daily basis. You must be able to handle and function within this high-stress environment and remain alert while performing dispatch duties. This work involves the responsibility of operating a multi-channel two-way radio system; computer systems, receiving phone calls, and performing related clerical tasks. This position requires fast, efficient and accurate receiving of information, dispatching and processing of calls and messages to and from Police, Fire and EMS personnel as required. Applicants must be 19 or older and a high school graduate or have GED certification. You must also be able to pass a drug and background screening.
